I can’t say I’ve ever been a big fan of Valentine’s Day. All that mushy, lovey-dovey stuff. Making all those stupid valentines for everybody in the class. As if this would change the fact that some kids are popular and some kids aren’t. And getting a forced valentine is even worse than getting no valentine at all. Because it turns people’s feelings into fakery and junk, good for nothing but the recycling bin.

That’s how it always seemed to me, anyway.

Except for this year. Things were different now.

For the first time ever, there was someone I wanted to give a valentine to.

Yeah, life is weird.

I checked inside my notebook. Yes—it was still there, safely tucked between two blank pages. I had done some fancy cutting and pasting and Photoshopping to create a special card for you-know-who.
